Sensational large silver covered chalice beautifully hand crafted entirely in silver (800 silver standard); decorated with motifs in relief, pierced, engraved and chased designs. It is inspired directly in similar pieces influenced by Medieval Germany, in full Mannerism, due to the importance that Germanic silver had in that century; the German and Central European architects in general created for the collectors' cabinets rich pieces designed to be displayed and not used, this piece is a great example of virtuosity and ornamental wealth of 'Mannerist' silverware. The vessel has a cylindrical shape, adorned with pierced and embossed reliefs and again a typical motif of 'Mannerist' silverware. The lid is topped with an Angelic cherub. Total weight: 3878 grams; circa late 17th-early 18th century.
